Desoldering stations and hot air stations for (SMD) components

Desoldering stations are an indispensable tool when working with soldered components. They are used when working on SMD components and other sensitive components, as well as for repairs on printed circuit boards. It also allows components to be replaced without leaving solder residue. The heated solder can be removed quickly and safely with the help of the desoldering station, thus avoiding damage caused by unwanted solder dispersion on the board.

There are two variants of desoldering stations, desoldering stations with a desoldering iron and desoldering stations with a hot air iron. The models with a desoldering iron have a heated tip that liquefies the solder on contact with the solder joint. At the push of a button, the liquid solder can then be removed by an extraction mechanism built into the desoldering iron. By contrast, the stations with hot air irons heat and liquefy the solder without direct contact. However, this still requires an additional manual desoldering pump to remove the solder. 

Selection criteria

When choosing a suitable desoldering station, one should consider their own requirements and applications. The great advantage of a desoldering station is that the temperature can be controlled precisely and easily. Therefore, you should pay attention to both the temperature range, but also how accurately the individual temperature values can be set. If you often work with SMD components in your projects, you should consider stations with a hot air iron, as they are perfect for delicate SMD work.
